Elisa is an orphaned girl age 14. We took on the responsibility to help this girl- she's in 5th grade due to previous havign to take care of her sibblings. We were hoping we would be able to give her a chance for a future.
Yesterday Emilio- my manager at our riding school went to Elisa's house to drop of food only to find that she wasn't home. He found a neighbour which broke the news..Elisa hasn't really been home and is pregnant.
Now what?
14 years, no education and pregnant. Hopefully she doesn't have Hiv...yes, there's a lot of Hiv in Mozambique and for a girl aged 14 with hardly any education and very little knowledge of life...
Monday the school, comminity and grandparents will meet with her as to see what can be done, what she wants and see if we can convinve her to proceed with school. Food wasn't delivered and is at my house awaiting confirmation of what will happen next.
I'm saddened but not surprised.
